On Saturday, January 4th, 2025, St Patrick's Catholic Church in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, was the venue for a heartfelt celebration as Rev Fr Clifford Aniefuna celebrated his 40th anniversary in the priesthood. The event was marked by tributes from fellow priests, friends, and acquaintances who have been touched by his ministry. Described by the celebrant as a celebration of gratitude for God's kindness, the gathering saw a diverse attendance including Catholic priests from Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, as well as laypeople from around the globe, including the USA and Germany.
During the opening Mass, Rev Fr Ignatius Onwuatuegwu from Nnamdi Azikiwe University's Department of Philosophy, in his homily, praised Fr Aniefuna as a distinguished and enigmatic servant of God. He compared him to Abraham, noting that Aniefuna not only responded to the priestly calling but also joyfully follows in Christ's footsteps.
In an interview with Fides, Fr Aniefuna expressed his sense of fulfillment after 40 years in the priesthood, attributing his journey to divine grace, "It's all by God's grace; I take no credit, but it's a journey worth thanking God for."
Several notable attendees shared their views with Fides, describing Fr Aniefuna as a saintly figure, a peacemaker, and an exemplary priest who has represented the Catholic Church, Awka Diocese, and his hometown of Agulu with distinction wherever he has served. Among those who spoke were Rev Fr Joseph Nwana, Lady Cynthia Nnebedum, Chief Oliver Afamefuna, Mr Emeka Onwusowulu, and Mrs Felicia Ajuozuma. The celebration continued at St Albert the Great College's field where the second part of the event took place, featuring gift presentations to Fr Aniefuna from his family, St Patrick's, other parishes he has served, and various church groups.
